Benedictine cloisters of Marienberg

The Benedictine cloisters of Marienberg is situated at an altitude of 1,340 metres above sea level and it the highest altitude Benedictine cloisters in Europe. Founded around 1200 A.D., the Baroque church, the round arch portal, the stone figure ‘Mary with child‘, the crypt with Roman frescoes of Byzantine influence, the groined vault with figures of angels, as well as valuable wooden sculptures and pictures are well worth seeing. It is also possible to pray together with the monks.
